I can’t believe it’s been so long, since we’ve touched base. Last time, I wrote about the untimely death of Cricky’sGoldenEyes from colic. He had been our horse, since he was a weanling and when he was retired, Lexie took him to her farm and he was used for riding lessons and as a pony on at Saratoga Race Course.
Today, I want to highlight the danger that a loose horse can present while many other horses are training on a race track. This horse was not mine, though we hoped we could claim one like Caixa Eletronica. He had been claimed years ago by Mike Repole for $62,500 and went on to win many, many races, including four Grade 1 Stakes races and earned a million dollars. A few days ago, he was standing on the training track when another horse got loose and ran towards him at full speed. He could not get out of the way and there was a head-on collision, killing both horses instantly and seriously injuring Caixa Eletronica’s rider. The types of accidents, ailments and diseases faced by horses in any environment are many. The humans who interact with them can also become casualties. Yet, the humans all love their horses and continue… just like you’d do, if your dog hurt you accidentally.
Nonetheless, the trauma hurts and dulls a piece of your heart. RIP Caixa Eletronica. We wish a fast recovery to your rider and send condolences to the Repole family and their staff.
Now, on to good things! In a separate e-mail, I will send you some photos of our babies turned Yearlings as of January 1st (All race horses become the next year older on January 1st!). Here is a beautiful photo of Ahvee’s Destiny in foal at Rojan Farms:

Yes, I’m prejudiced, but isn’t she beautiful?! She’s due the 3rd week of February. We’re hoping to be in Saratoga for President’s weekend. So, maybe we’ll get lucky!
In the next e-mail, I’ll tell you about our trip to visit the babies, Hear the Footsteps and Jess Not Jesse in Florida… and more!
