Colt or Filly?
Ahvee’s Destiny’s next mating will be with City Zip, who was trained by Linda. She loves him and his progeny. In fact, Karakorum Elektra is in foal to City Zip and Linda owns her! Palace, another son of City Zip has been a big winner for her and her client Antonino.
Ransom Note, our Regal Ransom colt, has a problem in one of his hocks. He had surgery on his hocks before we bought him. He’s being treated with an Hyaluronic Acid injection and will be turned out for awhile. We don’t want to take any chances with him.
Candy for Kisses, our Candy Ride filly, is being treated with Marquis. It’s a particularly strong de-worming agent. She’ll stay in training.
Nothing much new with the other young ‘uns. We’ll have to make a decision in little more than a month as to which we might put into the June sale in Ocala. Blitzer Too and Another Genius are on the bubble, as of now.
You’ve read about how much I like this new musical. Here’s Investor Information for this new Broadway production.
OPENING A BROADWAY MUSICAL
When opening a new Broadway musical there are many factors that should be considered.
Title: Does the show have a title that will entice a Theatergoer to buy a ticket?
Content: Is the content of the show something that is targeted to a large cross-section of the Theater-going public? Does it have relevance or timeliness in today’s world?
Branding/Marketing: Does the show have a branded awareness that through its marketing campaign will be able to cut through in a crowded marketplace?
THE GOOD NEWS: The answers to these pertinent questions as it relates to On Your Feet!, is YES.
THE NUTS AND BOLTS
Gloria Estefan is a seven-time Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter, actress and social activist. Known as the “Queen of Latin Pop”, she is one of the top 100 best-selling music artists with over 100 million albums sold worldwide, 31.5 million of those in the United States. Estefan is the most successful crossover performer in Latin music to date.
ON YOUR FEET! is the story of Emilio and Gloria Estefan, two people who believed in their talent, their music and each other, and became an international sensation. Get ready to get on your feet, and dance to the smash hits “Rhythm Is Gonna Get You,” “1-2-3,” “Live For Loving You,” “Conga,” and many more. Featuring a book by Alexander Dinelaris (The Bodyguard, Birdman), choreography by four-time Drama Desk nominee Sergio Trujillo (Memphis, Jersey Boys) and directed by two-time Tony Award® winner Jerry Mitchell (Kinky Boots, Hairspray), ON YOUR FEET! will bring a new sound to Broadway in 2015.
On Your Feet! will be have a run in Chicago from June 2nd, 2015 to July 5th, 2015 and make its Broadway debut at the Marquis Theatre with previews beginning on October 5th, 2015 and opening on November 5th, 2015.
THE BUDGET AND RUNNING COSTS
The show has a capitalization of $17 million, a budget size that we are seeing across the industry these days for a big Broadway musical. The actual PRODUCTION costs, excluding reserves, bonds, deposits, and advances, ie: hard costs to be recouped are around $15.4 million. On Your Feet breaks even at approximately 48% capacity. The weekly operating costs are $633,000.00 INCLUDING royalties. At 80% of gross potential, the show will recoup in about a year. At 100% gross potential, it can recoup in less then 9 months and at 65% capacity, in less then two years.
Other shows following the same model as ON YOUR FEET! include the hit Broadway musicals JERSEY BOYS and BEAUTIFUL: THE CAROLE KING MUSICAL. JERSEY BOYS recouped it’s investment in 7 months, and BEAUTIFUL recouped it’s full capitalization of $13 million in 10 months.
THE DETAILS OF INVESTING
The fact of the matter is that the major hits on Broadway are continuing to be major hits during good times and bad. JERSEY BOYS, KINKY BOOTS, MATILDA, BEAUTIFUL, BOOK OF MORMON, etc. are as strong as ever. What this means is that a hit is still a hit.
We believe that On Your Feet has all the “ingredients” to be a major hit. Investors in the Broadway show of On Your Feet can earn future income through merchandise, national tours, international tours, and through audio-visual possibilities. These types of subsidiaries are common for Broadway investments, but it does feel as though these subsidiaries could be quite a profit center for a property like On Your Feet!
