Stuck With You was going to be his name. Well it didn’t turn out that way but we did, in fact, stick with him.
It’s Truly Ahvee is a beautiful horse. Long legs, nice conformation. He ran fearlessly as a 2-yr. old in Saratoga but got injured in his second race. He had two tears in his tendon, but rather than give up on him, we gave him treatment and time.
After 18 months, he came back. It took two races to establish him as a $20 – 25K claimer. Then, he broke his maiden easily under the great Ramon Dominguez. Ramon was forced to retire from injury earlier this year. Now, It’s Truly Ahvee, who’s been bleeding internally from the stress of racing will be retired too.
He ran yesterday and showed that even in cheaper company at Finger Lakes racetrack, he couldn’t overcome his problem. We thought he’d win and get claimed but neither took place. So, we’ll send him someplace where he can be cared for and possibly retrained to be someone’s beautiful riding horse or for some other use. Goodbye, It’s Truly Ahvee. You are still loved!
Tomorrow, another one of our favorite horses, Hear the Footsteps, will run in the Mohawk Stakes at Belmont for a purse of $200K. The competition will be even tougher than his last two races, since two horses who have run and won in Graded Stakes will also be among the competitors. Nonetheless, we know Footsie will give his all and that’s all we can ask for. We’ll be there to root him on in the 10th race on the grass with Jose Ortiz in the saddle from the #1 post position. GO FOOTSIE!
Patsy Symons’s Effie Trinket will run in tomorrow’s 8th race Stakes and try to make it two in a row. We’ll be meeting Patsy for lunch and rooting for Effie and Patsy to get to the Winner’s Circle.
Tomorrow night both Timberwolf and Naugatuck will compete at Saratoga Harness. We had a third place finish from Naugatuck last week, so let’s hope they can do better. Perhaps, if I’d started with these harness horses, I wouldn’t still be a race horse owner!
Next week, on the 23rd, another one of our warriors is entered at Belmont at a distance of 7 furlongs on the grass. It’s Jess Not Jesse, who seems to favor a shorter distance and, once again, will be facing our former steed, Awakino Cat. This would probably be his last raceĀ of the year… and the same for Footsie. Then, they’ll get to stay with Pat in Florida.
Have a lovely weekend!
Best,
A.
