Triple Crown Winner?

I could make a case for almost any of the 8 entrants but before the Kentucky Derby, I said American Pharoah had the potential for a Triple Crown. So, I am going to root for that and go with form for the rest.
1 – American Pharoah
2 – Frosted
3 – Materiality
4 – Mubtaahij

This is exactly the order of the Morning Line odds… how boring! However, it is not beyond the pale to think that any of the others could win. The Belmont has had longshots come in first, time and time again. Our friend and very successful trainer, Ken McPeek, won the Belmont with Sarava who paid $142.50 for a $2 bet. Look at this list of payouts…

2011 $51.50
2010 $28.00
2009 $25.80
2008 $79.00
2007 $10.60
2006 $14.40
2005 $4.30
2004 $74.00
2003 $6.00
2002 $142.50
2001 $4.70
2000 $39.60
Median $26.90

You can see that from a betting perspective, if you choose the right longshot, you can be well-rewarded. Which one? There’s an argument for any one of them! Good luck.

Ahvee’s Destiny got pregnant again and has been checked at the 28 day mark, which confirms she is still in foal. If we get to the 45 day mark, we will ship her and her filly, who is 3 months old, back to New York. Now, we need to make a decision on where her new farm will be.

In addition, FlatteryWillGetYou and Hay Field have arrived at Belmont. We will visit them before the Belmont Stakes program begins. I am really looking forward to seeing them. They will begin training by next week with racing at Saratoga as their objective. Yay!

Blitzer Too, Another Genius and Candy for Kisses are at the OBS sales grounds in Ocala, FL. They are being prepared for sale. We will make the final decisions at the last moment as to who goes into the sales ring and what reserves, if any, are placed on the sales price. Tough decisions. One interesting reaction from the professionals seems to be that they are all somewhat afraid to sell because they fear the sold horse will come back to haunt them by doing very well for someone else. Easy for them to say… they didn’t pay for the horse!

More to come next week.
