A Piece of Good News
We went to visit Ahvee’s Destiny at Waldorf Farm in North Chatham, NY. We met Dr. Shawn Morrell, the foot specialist from Rood & Riddle Saratoga, Dr. Jerry Bilinski, who owns the facility and Teri & Buster Brown (No kidding), who manage the farm. Dr. Morrell told us the site of the abscess looked like it drained completely and her hoof didn’t smell bad. Most importantly, the horse was moving a little better. He had her in a boot on her right front and today he put her in a new shoe that has a plate in it with a door, so the active area can be accessed for treatment.
Here she is with me in the stall where she was tranquilized, so Dr. Morrell could work on her. We were told the floor was sandy, so it would be soft on her hooves.
Below is a large area outside but under cover with soft ground covered by hay. She can move around here and see other horses in adjacent corrals. Though the focus is poor, you can see the boot on her left front foot.
She has two bacteria active in her system. The current anti-biotic is working against the Proteus bacteria but not working on the Staph. In 48 hours, they’ll be trying Doxecycline whoch will hopefully combat both bacteria (pardon my spelling). The doctor is trying not to add more anti-biotics but to replace them, so her digestive system can be controlled.
Hopefully, we’ll have more good news on her and on Ransom Note and FlatteryWillGetYou. Maybe even an upcoming race for Ramon Dominguez, Ahvee’s first born.
