Sunday at Belmont

She’s a pretty daughter of Candy Ride who’s taken a while to mature. Linda is running her 6 furlongs on the grass in race 4 on Sunday under Belmont’s leading rider, Jose Ortiz. Unfortunately, we will not be there because it’s Josiah’s 2-yr. old birthday party at the Stamford Nature Center. So, we’ll bring the I-Pad and hope we connect to the internet to watch the race from there. Josiah loves horses, so maybe he’ll watch the race with us.

FlatteryWillGetYou is having her knee evaluated by Dr. Hogan and once Linda and the good doctor have a pow-wow, we’ll know what the decision is. Seems like we’ll either inject her next week and if Flattery shows relief she’ll run on July 9th and then get turned out. Otherwise, she will be turned out for rest and healing without racing on the 9th. So, no Saratoga racing for her this year, in either case.

Ahvee’s Destiny was checked this week and she is still in foal to Honor Code at the 42 day mark. This means we insured the prospective foal that should be born next April. Now, she and this year’s City Zip foal will soon be returned to Stone Gate Stables in Fort Edward, NY, along with her friend Karakorum Elektra and her City Zip foal. I guess they really do EVERYTHING together!

Ahvee’s 2-yr. old colt, Ramon Dominguez and her yearling filly, Aussie Ahvee, are relaxing in the hot Florida sun down in Ocala. Ramon was gelded and it was for the best, since one of his testicles was wrapped and twisted up. He needed a little more time to recover but, hopefully, less discomfort in that area will make him a happier horse. (I’m biting my tongue as I say that.) He’ll probably go back into training and she’ll start training August 1st.

I believe Ransom Note is doing well at Patty Hogan’s and may also go back into training around August 1st, but I’ll need confirmation from Patty that I’m correct (or NOT!). In any case, he won’t get to the racetrack before Fall.

Saratoga Race Course is opening four weeks from today. Saratoga Springs is a wonderful town all year long, but it’s always special when the horse are running. Luckily, we get to see them from our backyard between April and November. The mornings are beautiful, often ushered in by a light mist which the sun makes disappear. Hope we get to see you there!
