Champion Horse Dead at 4

Shared Belief, winner of 10 out of 12, dies of colic at age 4.

Sorry to start off with a downer, but this happened yesterday. Our horse, Candy for Kisses has the same sire, so we relate even a little more that the average fan. We’ve spoken about the biggest killer of horses before… when Cricky’s Goldeneyes had to be euthanized because of it. It hurts all racing fans and horse lovers.

We’ve been asked for a listing of all our horses, so you can keep a scorecard. All racehorses turn one year older on January 1st. I will use their age as of that date. Here goes:

Ahvee’s Destiny – our 11 time race winner who is now a broodmare residing at Stonegate Stables in Ft. Edward, NY (20 minute from Saratoga). She is in foal to City Zip, due in April. When last we saw her on November 14th, she was brought inside to see us with her friend Karakorum Elektra in a neighboring stall. We fed her carrots and cookies. It’s always like she hasn’t had any food in a week. When we brought her back to the corral, Elektra nickered at her from the stable stall. Ahvee nickered back and became quite agitated, running back and forth in the corral until Elektra joined her. They nuzzled and then ran around together, It’s kind of sad and funny because Elektra like to prove who’s boss by biting Ahvee. I guess they’re love bites, though Ahvee needs treatment afterwards. Frenemys?

You can see a video of me feeding her at this link… https://youtu.be/JJCIJPbgnJ0

Flatterywillgetyou – A 3 year-old filly residing at Belmont. She is in training and may race for the first time by year end or early in January. She is quick but has had some knee problems. She’s been getting out (not running in a straight line, bearing out) when breezing and was pretty nervous for her first month here. She’s doing better now but may need a run-out blinker to help her stop getting out.

Hay Field – Another 3 year-old filly at Belmont who has been stubborn training. She’s starting to get it. So, hopefully, she’ll be running in the near future.

Allie N’ Kat – A 3 year-old colt at Belmont who seems destined to run a “route of ground” (a longer distance), since he does not have a lot of natural speed. He just got here. So, he probably won’t race until March.

In Ocala, Florida at Pat Hoppel’s Farm:

Another Genius – A 3 year-old filly out of Einstein. She was supposed to be shipped to Belmont but came up lame. Luckily, she seems better and may come up by year end.

Ransom Note – A big, beautiful 3 year-old Chestnut sired by Regal Ransom. He’s had some hock problems but seems good enough to be shipped up by year end.

Candy for Kisses – The 3 year old Candy Ride filly mentioned above. She still needs to mature, if she is to be successful on the race track. Let’s hope for the best.

Ramon Dominguez – Ahvee’s 2 year-old colt. They’ve called him the Little Bastard because of his temperment. He likes to run. So, maybe he’ll make it to Saratoga next summer… we can dream!

Ahvee 2015 – This filly sired by the Australian champ, Lonhro, will be yearling but is unnamed, as yet. She looks good at this point but there’s a long way to go… more dreams!

In Ocala at Abracadabra Farm:

Pointe Classe – The 3 year old filly we claimed in August. Trained by Carl Domino, this is the one we bought to get some action. She’s needed surgery, rest, and turnout before she can go back to training. Look for her next Spring.

Including the Queen — Ahvee’s Destiny — that’s ten of ’em. We’ll visit the ones still on the farm at the end of the month.

We’ve missed not just having racers but having winners. It’s so exciting. I can’t wait for the next time I get to put my Jockey Silks on in the Winner’s Circle. Let’s hope it comes about often. We’ve been pretty lucky in the past. So, maybe we will be again. That’s right. More of those hopes and dreams!

HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
