Flattery & Florida

FlatteryWillGetYou wanted to give us a photo for our Anniversary present… but NYRA canceled racing at Aqueduct!

Greetings Steve

It was too cold and windy on Thursday, December 15th for racing, so she couldn’t get us into the Winner’s Circle. Tomorrow, she’ll get another chance to get into the Winner’s Circle, but we won’t be able to join her, if she wins. Tomorrow, we leave for Florida.

Last December, we were in Florida when Flattery ran her first race with Jose Ortiz in the saddle. She finished third that day, coming from way back when she had trouble getting out of the gate. Since then, she’s won four out of five and has had surgery to remove chips from her knees. It’ll be tough for her to win after a layoff of over five months but the track handicapper has made her the 3-1 Morning Line favorite.

We’ll be watching and rooting for her on a computer at the Boca Beach Club. It’s 6 furlongs on the Aqueduct inner track with 8 other quality competitors. Good luck Flattery!
We’ve been embroiled in negotiations for breeding Ahvee’s Destiny and Candy for Kisses next year. We believe we’re going to try for Nyquist, last year’s Kentucky Derby winner, if space becomes available in his “book” after Ahvee’s Destiny foals in April. If he’s not available, we have a back-up of a foal-share arrangement with Bernardini, a stallion who’s more expensive than Nyquist but we will have to sell the foal. Either we make money on the transaction or we can buy the foal ourselves.

Candy for Kisses is a maiden at breeding. We plan to send her to First Samurai, a son of Giant’s Causeway. They say the two of them really fit well according to the pedigree numbers and he’s not too expensive for our first-time broodmare.

Lastly, if you have any questions, feel free to ask. I will endeavor to answer!

Happy holidays!
