Horse Country – Ocala

HORSING AROUND!

Ramon Dominguez, the horse… Another Genius… Candy for Kisses… Lonhro’s filly (Aussie Ahvee?) at Pat’s farm and Pointe Class swimming at Barry’s farm. It was fun in Florida’s horse capital, Ocala.

Even if you don’t own animals, you may have experienced the feeling of elation when a child recognizes you or interacts with you when you approach him or her. For those of us with pets or working animals, we also love it when they react positively to us. So, when we approached many of our horses, only Another Genius was a little skittish and even she stood still for this photo. Now a 3-yr.old,, she’ll undergo a treatment for worms to see if she can become more comfortable on the track.

Ahvee’s Destiny’s now 2 yr. old son (Ramon Dominguez) is known as a brat wherever he goes… but with us, he is friendly, calm and like his mother, he loves cookies! From being a gawky weanling, he has turned into a lovely 2-yr. old. Pat says he’s the best mover on the track of all the horses at the farm, which makes us dream excitedly.

Now a new yearling, Ahvee’s Destiny’s daughter (Aussie Ahvee since her sire is Australian), who always backed away when she was younger, allows us to touch her now. They think she looks very good. More dreaming!

Candy for Kisses, now a 3-yr. old, was docile, as usual, but won’t take cookies yet, though you can see we tried to feed her. She returns to training this week and we’ll find out if she can be a racehorse soon.

Pointe Class enjoyed cookies after her swim. She’s been rehabbing from surgery to remove chips in her ankles and goes back into training on the 10th.

It was fun being with them and their humans on the two farms. Weather was alternately hot, cloudy, foggy with a little rain. Last year we were quite cold in Ocala.

Now, it’s time for the older horses to get ready for racing and for the ones already up here to get to the track. Hopefully, we’ll have more to report soon.

A HAPPY AND HEALTHY NEW YEAR FILLED WITH SUCCESS AND HAPPINESS TO YOU AND YOURS!
