Short update from Saratoga Springs

Hay Field is a beautiful horse with nice pedigree

However, this far, her performance on the track has been problematic. Some people said that before Hay Field won a race, there would have to be a solar eclipse over Saratoga Race Course. They were wrong. There was an eclipse on Monday but Hay Field could only manage to finish 7th.

From post #1, you need to get out of the gate quickly, especially in a short race, like the 5 1/2 furlong race that she participated in on Monday. Luis Reyes did not get her out of the gate quickly. Before you knew it, she was last. That’s the first of her, make that “my,” excuses.

She didn’t like clumps of grass hitting her in the face. She was intimidated by the other horses. She must have looked at the eclipse and was blinded, that’s what made her zig-zag over the track. Etc., Etc., Etc.

Bottom line: we’ll try a lower claiming price and add blinkers. As I said, she’s a beautiful horse with good pedigree. Maybe she’ll make a great broodmare!

Tomorrow, our son Jonathan, and the gang begin their arrival. By Friday night, we’ll be almost full and Saturday night will have jonathan sleeping on a couch or a recliner. It’s Travers Stakes weekend… the Summer Derby. We’ll eat out. We’ll eat in. They’ll drink a lot. And there will be music, song and lots of laughs. We look forward to it each year.

Hope your weekend is as fun!
